In a recent article, I mentioned that the Digital Imaging Marketing Association had a Digital Camera Shootout at the DIMA Annual Conference in Las Vegas back in February. They picked winners in seven different categories based on retail price range, and an eighth for digital video camcorders. The winners were:
- In Point-and-Shoot Camera categories:
- HP PhotoSmart 735 for the $100 – $199 price range,
Minolta Dimage X20 for the $200 – $299 price range,
Casio QV-R51 for the $300 – $399 price range,
HP PhotoSmart 945 for the $400 – $499 price range, and
Olympus Camedia C-5060 for the $500 – $799 price range.
- In Prosumer/Professional Categories:
- Olympus Camedia C-8080 for the $999 – $1299 price range, and
- Leica Digilux 2 for the $1300 – $1799 price range.
- And, in the Digital Video Camcorder Category, the
Sony DCRPC330 Handycam took the honors.
There are some incredible cameras in these lists. The Olympus Cameida C-8080 is an 8-megapixel camera that’s the highest resolution of the bunch. All of the prosumer camera fans seem to be in love with the Leica Digilux 2 because it delivers 5-megapixel performance with the feel and response of a film camera. I’d gladly shoot with any of them.
