I received my Garmin Forerunner 201 last week and began testing it in a variety of exercise situations. For those of you who are just joining this discussion, the Garmin Forerunner 201 is a Global Positioning System-based fitness measurement tool suitable for use during outdoor running, walking, in-line skating, and cycling.
Before I began my testing, I took a set of photos of the Forerunner when it was brand new with the thought that people who are considering purchase of it might wonder what’s in the box. Read on in this article for more photos of the stuff you get with the Garmin Forerunner 201.
Forgive me in advance for my lack of photo editing skills, because:
- I’m learning how to take photos of products and packaging.
- I’m also learning how to retouch these photos with the GIMP.
Each of the photos shown in this article is a thumbnail image. Click on them to see a larger version of the same photo.
Here’s the back of the box, just for completeness. Note that there are some examples of the contents of the display in different Forerunner operating modes and summary of the Forerunner 201’s features.
The contents of the package is shown above. The frontmost item in the photo is the PC interface cable with the RS232 serial port connector. It connects to the AC Charger (the next set of cables shown on the lower right) via a “Y” connector. The Forerunner 201 unit snaps into the docking portion of the AC Charger, which is at the opposite end of the cable from the wall plug.
The Forerunner 201 unit itself with its wrist strap is shown in the center left of the photo. A wrist strap extension is to the right of the Forerunner. I guess you would use it if you wore the Forerunner on the outside of a jacket, or if you had large forearms.
At the rear of the photo, left to right, is the 35-page Forerunner 201 Personal Trainer Owner’s Manual and the Forerunner 201 Quick Start Guide.
I hope these photos help you understand what you get when you purchase the Garmin Forerunner 201. Feel free to post any questions about the components of the Forerunner, and I’ll try to answer them.
