Mike Langberg of The San Jose Mercury News just finished reviewing the Motorola A630 for his Tech Test Drive column and he likes it. He says that the A630 will amaze your friends primarily because of its size and the fact that Motorola has crammed so many state-of-the-art features into such a small package.
The featherweight 4.3-ounce phone, not much bigger than a hotel’s bar of soap, flips open on its long side to reveal a color screen and a tiny but full-scale keyboard. This makes the A630 the smallest mobile phone yet with a true keyboard, greatly speeding up the process of typing instant messages, e-mail and short text messages.
The A630… isn’t exactly a smart phone — it’s more of a slightly-above-average phone with limited functions. But at least it’s affordable, if you shop around.
Landberg goes on to point out the best deals available on this phone are found on-line. He cites the Amazon.com deal that expires on December 15 that allows you to buy the A630 for $99 after a mail-in rebate. Check the A630 page on Amazon for the latest price if you catch this after the December 15th rebate expires.
He likes tha A630 if you need a pocket-sized phone that can be used for AIM or to access WAP-based sites but don’t need the additional features of larger and more expensive smartphones.
