I’ve been all over the place this weekend (to the garden center to choose a Christmas Tree, to the hockey rink, to Washington DC in a snowstorm), but I wanted to point out an excellent review of the Sony Ericsson T610 “image and entertainment” phone that was published on the O’Reilly Network. As the review says, Sony Ericsson considers this phone to be in a class one step below their smartphones. But, it has Bluetooth and GPRS capability, so it’s a good choice for people that carry a separate PDA or prefer to use a laptop when mobile.
One issue that people may have with the T610 is its camera. It only takes pictures that are 352 x 288 pixels. That’s roughly one-third of the resolution of many camera phones, which take 640 x 480 pictures. Another is that the on-board memory on the T610 is limited, and there is no MMC expansion capability. These are tradeoffs that you may choose to make when you see that you can get this phone and receive $100 back from Amazon.com and T-Mobile, after rebates, if you choose the right service contract.
As I said, this is a terrific review. The author, Todd Ogasawara did a great job of combining personal opinions, technical specs, developer-level information, photos of the unit in action, and digital camera photos taken by the phone. If every review had this much information, it would be easy to choose a high end mobile phone.
