The BBC reported that the USB Promoter Group announced that future USB cable interfaces will be smaller and reversible, so as to better compete with the Apple Lightning cable that is already reversible and smaller than USB 3.0.
The new interface to be called “USB Type-C” will not be a completed specification until mid-2014 and will not be used in a product until sometime in 2016.
