One of the other interesting developments that came out of the 3GSM World Congress was the announcement of an alliance between Motorola and Skype designed to set VoIP free from the PC for small office and home users. Skype is a Luxembourg-based VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service provider.
It’s hard to know how many Skype users there are in the United States, but Silicon.com estimates that there are 15 million users worldwide and that number could grow well beyond 100 million in the foreseeable future. This is why Motorola is so interested in making Skype-compatible telecommunications gear. [ via PhoneScoop ]
